A Strategic Business Plan is critical to growing your business. Strategic Business Plans are designed specifically for each company. Companies operate at different levels, have different management skills and needs and have built unique foundations and infrastructures along the way. The development of a good Strategic Business Plan is to access the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of an organization and determine which areas to focus on to take the organization to the next level. No Strategic Plan is perfect. The key is to execute the plan, monitor results, access results, and make necessary changes to stay on plan.

Below is an outline of the process that CFO Team will conduct in developing your Strategic Business Plan. Because companies are all at different levels in their growth CFO Team will review the process in the outline or help your company develop the process. The development of the process may be part of your first Strategic Business Plan.

Strategic Business Plan Outline

    Initial Consultation – This is usually held with the owner, CEO/President, and or Board of Directors. At this meeting CFO Team will access a general idea of where the organization is at and where you would like it to be in 3 to 5 years.

    Mission Statement – This is the why we do what we do. This tells the organization and our customers why we are in business.

    Core Values – These are the values that we use to govern or organization as we work to achieve our mission. Many companies when charting a new course and or direction will refer to their core values to keep them on track.

    SWOT Analysis – A SWOT analysis is an analysis of the organizations Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. CFO Team usually performs this analysis with the executive team.

    Management SWOT’s – CFO Team will perform SWOT’s on your key executive and management teams. We will identify key roles to fill to move to the next level and to free you up so you can start working on the business instead of in the business.

    Market Analysis – What is your company’s current position, market share, total market share, and opportunities to increase market share.

    Operations SWOT

      Technology Review – Does your company have the necessary technology to go to the next level? Is the software an all encompassing package. Does it have the power to produce the reports and analysis necessary to run the company? Does your sales force have good CRM (customer relationship management) software?

      Operating Procedures – Does your company have written policies and procedures? Are they adequate for growing your company to the next level? Are your employees trained in these procedures and are they using them?

      Revenue and Cost Analysis – CFO Team looks for the real drivers in your revenue and cost. How do we increase gross margin? How can we run production more efficiently?

    Budgeting and Forecasting - CFO Team we have developed a unique complex budgeting and forecasting package. It is your financial tool to your Strategic Business Plan. CFO Team develops a 5year rolling financial budget and projections including balance sheet items. This is important because your plan will also include cash flow requirements and capital needs to excellerate your growth.

    CFO Team will also monitor your actual performance against the plan and help your management team make the necessary changes now to stay on plan.

    Capital Assessment – What are your company’s capital needs for growth to meet your 5 year strategic objectives? How much profit does the company need to retain each year to fuel the growth? Does the company need to raise additional capital to fund the growth? If so, what are the available sources of funding and at what cost.
